When Josh and I were first married, we lived in a basement apartment in Orem, Utah ... and I was in a crisis. Trying to find things that could keep me "busy" because I couldn't just go outside and do farm chores or ride a horse or whatever.
I remember Josh had a late rehearsal and wasn't going to be home until 10:30pm, but I wanted to look like I was bussssyyyy. I had this notion that he couldn't see me just relaxing. Ever. Unless I was sleeping (which, we can do that when we're dead).
So I started cleaning the oven and wiping down the wall next to it. He came home and was 1) shocked I was still up and 2) confused (impressed?) that I was wiping the walls with a rag ... at 10:30pm. Haha.
Good times, glad I've grown and changed a little ... at least I think. Ha!
Anyway, it was, yet again, one of those nights. Josh was in the living room and I was doing extra dishes and cleaning to prove I was devoted. ;) As I finished, I realized the sink was FILTHY. Into my mind popped the prompting: Don't forget the kitchen sink.
I wondered as I cleaned and sprayed and scrubbed our sink what that phrase meant. I had just been cleaning for so long; my feet were sore, my back ached, and I finally wanted to actually go take a break! Can't the kitchen sink wait?
The kitchen sink holds everything. Does everything. The faucet as water, the actual bowl holds every nasty thing, and then its drain gets flushed with everything you don't take out. The sides get terribly slimy and gross and the water stains build up like crazy over time.
But you had better believe that it SPARKLES when you clean it. Mine did that night. The kitchen always looks 100x better with a clean sink.
You. Trying to do everything. Hold everything. Be everything.
Take some time to "not forget the kitchen sink". Of course you're tired. Your feet hurt, your back aches ... you are the center of the kitchen! Anyone who has gone a day without a functional kitchen sink knows that the depth of their gratitude for that water-filling bowl is deepened (literally) beyond compare when they can use it again. A good sink is priceless.
Do something that scrubs off the gunk and makes your soul shine again.
YOU. You deserve to feel good and clean and amazing.
Don't forget the kitchen sink.
