I OFFICIALLY made my first successful loaf of sourdough this week!
Huge thanks to my sisters, Jessica and Carissa, for being patient the last year as I drug my feet and ate theirs instead of making my own. 🤫😂
Around the first week in September, I made my own starter and started making loaves. The first loaf was hilarious because Josh had to save our house because I put the bread in a regular pot (yeah, at 450°) and the house was smelling like rubber. Really doughy, but I chalked it up to not being cooked properly. By the third loaf, it was a dense, hard-rock load that took the pigs 5 minutes to bust through ðŸ¤.
I was feeling pretty defeated as I finally narrowed it down to my starter being weak. I wanted to just take a 5 year break, but then, Aha!, realized Facebook marketplace was for more than just free furniture and plants!
I bought a really good-looking starter (what do I know) for $6 (tipped her 4 because I was so happy😂) and was back in business. I made sourdough cookies and pancakes until I felt I was ready for the big-leagues.
Jessica, bless her soul!, did a video call with me and we walked through the entire process. My starter was bomb, er bubbly, and I was stoked.
So that I don't forget, these were the ratios we used:
50g of starter
350g of water
Mix together
500g of flour
10g of salt
The next morning, I baked a nice beautiful loaf of sourdough and was so confident that I did two the next morning.
I currently have two more proofing. ðŸ¤
But the real win here?
I cut a hot, fresh slice for Josh as he was running out the door for school. Afterwards I asked him how it was and he said, "I don't even like sourdough with butter, and I was eating a piece of sourdough plain! That bread was SO good!"
I have arrived. I have *made* it. 🤩🙌😂
This is my hard-rock pig style sourdough. Follow me for more tips.
