We had our first official overnight guests here at the Hooker Homestead ... *drum roll* ... Grandma and Grandpa Flory!
They flew into the Louisville, KY airport (as it's about sixes between our place or the Indianapolis, IN airport). We, along with my brother and his 4 kids, met them down there and we spent the weekend exploring!
An obvious destination was Churchill Downs which was just incredible! The movie they play is so worth it; 360 views and makes you appreciate every little aspect of what it takes to make a winner, from the breeding all the way to what the soil on the track. Just absolutely fascinating. Really made me miss full-time showing horses, actually. ❤️
We ate at a very yummy, cute spot called "The Cafe" Only including this information because I don't want to forget its name. 😂Family friendly, great portion sizes, and delicious indeed! Would go there again, to be sure!
Once back in Bedford, we were able to give Mom and Dad a "little taste of what [we] do". (Nacho Libre reference, for anyone who would like to know). Hazel was beyond excited to show them her kitties, and to milk the goat with them.
It was so fun having them see the place! We made sure we had our classic homemade goatmilk ice cream every night they were here so we could experiment with all the flavors we wanted 😂 I think Chocolate Peanut Butter won.
However, what would a trip to Indiana be for my parents if they didn't get to haul 300+ bales of hay?? 🥴 They knew I needed to get the horses stocked up on hay for the winter, so they had planned on doing it when they came out anyway, but ... still. It's one thing to talk about and it's another to roll up your sleeves and start lifting.
It turned out to be quite the adventure! We loaded up the 150 bales in the dark, drove it home and arrived around 10pm, then unloaded them into our garage the next morning, then drove the borrowed hay trailer back when we finished. Definitely an event, and one that I'm SO grateful I had help for.
Another thing, my cute mom said, "It seems tradition that whenever I stay with my kids, I make it my job to clean out their shower drains. Do you have a pair of tweezers?" 😂 She did more than borrow some old (yes, I gave her some old ones) tweezers; she drove to Dollar General just down the road and bought some draino, toilet cleaner, and fly swatters.
(Would you believe me if I said I DID clean the house before they arrived? 😅🤭)
I would say it was sad seeing them go, but Hazel and I went with them back to Utah for the world premiere of "Permafrost". So I guess I should just say it was sad to leave Josh. 🥹
So grateful my parents could come see our upgrade from Hooker Habitat to Hooker Homestead! They're beyond gracious and I'll forever be so blessed to have them as mom and dad.
